Buying a Home?

5 things Land Surveyors wish you knew before you buy a new home or property.

Buying a new home or a piece of land can be a stressful situation even if there aren’t any complications on the financial side. As Land Surveyors, we see many stressful and costly situations that could have been avoided, had the buyer had previous knowledge on what to look for when deciding on which home or property to buy and why something may appear to be a good deal, but should be avoided unless you understand the risks and potential costs.

What Can a Professional Land Surveyor do for you?

Your Land Surveyor renders a highly technical and complex service. This work is the foundation upon which your project is built. In cases of controversy, a land surveyor may appear in court on your behalf as an expert witness or provide written legal opinions on why a dispute about a boundary exists.

Many Land Surveyors act on behalf of clients at public hearings and meetings when city or county permit approval is required for developments. They may also participate with other consultants in the preparation of feasibility reports for complex projects. Land Surveyors are committed to the highest standards in protecting the interest of the public while establishing and evaluating land boundaries and laying out construction improvements.

Finding the right Surveyor for your project

All Surveyors are bound by the same laws within their State, however finding the right Surveying firm for your specific project is important. Some may be less costly and best geared for initial surveys, such as those needed for purchasing, like Boundary Surveys or basic financing ALTA Surveys. Some may be more costly, but better equipped to perform more complex Surveys such as those needed for design, construction staking, subdividing / altering lots, or helping navigate jurisdictional requirements.
